ISA Certified Arborist · Spokane, Washington

Tree care for the people, the plants, the birds, the bees — and the soil.

Holistic Pruners is the practice of Wakan Burrows — one arborist, every cut considered, from the root flare to the highest limb.

A tree is not a thing in your yard. It's a living system — roots working the soil, blossoms feeding the bees, a canopy full of birds and shade. Good tree care serves all of it.

Holistic Pruners is a one-arborist practice. Wakan climbs, prunes, and consults on every job himself — no rotating crews, no rushed work up high, no cut made without a reason.

Every recommendation starts with the tree's long-term health and ends with how it serves the whole landscape around it.

The Work

Tree Pruning

Most of what a tree needs isn't dramatic — it's careful, well-timed cuts that respect how the tree actually grows. Pruned for health, beauty, and fewer surprises in the next windstorm.

The Work

Tree Removal

Not every tree should come down — and not every tree can stay. When removal is the right call, it's made honestly and carried out with the same care as everything else.

A Holistic Option

Not every tree has to come all the way down.

A wildlife tree keeps the trunk standing at a safe height. The hazard is gone — but the woodpeckers, owls, and native pollinators that depend on standing wood keep their home. It's tree work that thinks past the property line.

Healthy trees start at the soil.

A mulch ring of arborist wood chips spread around a tree's base recreates the forest floor it was built for — insulating the roots, holding in moisture, and feeding the living soil as it slowly breaks down. It keeps mowers and string trimmers away from the trunk, suppresses competing turf, and turns yesterday's chips into next season's nourishment.

Sometimes the answer is less, not gone.

Before a tree comes down, it's worth asking whether it just needs to come back. Thoughtful crown reduction and structural pruning can resolve risk and clearance while keeping the canopy, the shade, and decades of growth standing — a smaller cut that lets a good tree keep doing its work.

The Arborist

It started with a climbing class, taken on a whim.

In 2012, Wakan Burrows signed up for a tree-climbing course at the local community college — and never really came down. More than a decade in the canopy has shaped a simple conviction: tree care, done right, is equal parts science, aesthetics, skill, service, education — and love.
